After-builders cleaning

Construction dust behaves unlike ordinary household dust. It is fine, it is abrasive, it travels through the whole property regardless of dust sheets, and it settles again over several days. Wiping it once simply redistributes it — which is why a home feels dusty for weeks after the builders leave even though somebody cleaned.

It needs a specific approach:

1. Top down, and dry first. Ceilings, light fittings, tops of doors and units, then downwards. Wet-wiping abrasive dust first just smears it into surfaces and can scratch them.
2. Vacuum everything, including vertical surfaces and inside every cupboard, track and recess, with proper filtration rather than a domestic vacuum that blows the fine particles straight back out.
3. Then wet clean, and expect to change water often.
4. Then a second pass, a day or two later, once airborne dust has resettled. This is the step everyone skips and it is the one that actually finishes the job.
5. Paint, adhesive and plaster splashes removed from glass, tiles, sanitaryware and floors - carefully, and with the right products for the surface.

Be wary of anyone who quotes after-builders work at the same duration as a normal clean. It routinely takes twice as long.

Hourly, from £00, with an estimated duration given up front. For anything unusual — heavy building work, a property in poor condition, hoarding — we quote after seeing photographs or visiting, because an inaccurate estimate helps nobody.

Send two or three phone photographs with your enquiry. It is the single fastest route to an accurate price, and it means we bring the right number of people and the right equipment.

A note on hoarding and severe clutter

We do take these jobs, and we take them without commentary. What we will not do is arrive and start throwing things away — that causes genuine distress and it is not our decision to make.

These jobs work when they are planned: agreed in stages, with the person present and in control of what goes, and with realistic expectations about how much happens in one visit. If someone in the household is struggling with this, say so when you enquire and we will approach it properly.
