Deep cleaning in London

Everything a regular clean does not reach: inside the oven, behind the fridge, the tops of doors, the grout, the extractor. Usually once or twice a year, and worth every hour.

Short answer

A deep clean is a thorough one-off clean covering everything a regular visit does not reach - inside the oven, behind and under appliances, limescale removal, skirting boards, door frames, light fittings and interior windows. A typical three-bedroom London home takes five to eight hours, sometimes with two cleaners.

What a deep clean includes

Deep clean scope
AreaWhat gets done
KitchenInside the oven including racks and door glass, inside and behind the fridge and freezer, inside the microwave, extractor and filter, inside cupboards if emptied, descaling the sink and taps, degreasing tiles and splashbacks.
BathroomsFull descale of shower, screen, taps and tiles, grout scrubbed, extractor cleaned, behind and around the toilet, plugholes cleared.
EverywhereSkirting boards, door frames, doors, tops of doors, light switches, sockets, radiators including between the fins, light fittings and shades, picture rails, interior windows and sills.
FloorsEdges and corners vacuumed properly, hard floors mopped twice, under moveable furniture.
Soft furnishingsUpholstery vacuumed including under cushions, mattresses vacuumed and turned on request.

How long does a deep clean take?

Longer than people expect, and the honest number depends far more on condition than on floor area. As a guide:

  • One-bedroom flat: 4-5 hours
  • Two-bedroom flat or house: 5-6 hours
  • Three-bedroom house: 6-8 hours
  • Four bedrooms or more: a full day, usually two cleaners

Add time for a property that has not been deep cleaned in several years, heavy limescale in a hard-water area (most of London), a much-used oven, or pets. We would rather quote eight hours and finish in seven than quote five and leave a job half done.

When to book one

  • Before starting a regular clean. The most useful time of all. A deep clean sets the baseline, and every regular visit afterwards maintains it rather than fighting it.
  • Spring, or before Christmas. The two times of year most people notice.
  • Moving into a new home, before the furniture arrives. Vastly easier with empty rooms, and you are not living in somebody else's grime.
  • After illness in the house, or after a long period when nobody was able to keep up.
  • Before a landlord inspection or a property valuation.

How to get the most from the day

Clear surfaces before we arrive. Not because we mind moving things, but because an hour spent relocating ornaments and paperwork is an hour not spent cleaning, and you are paying for the time either way. Emptying kitchen cupboards you want done inside makes a real difference too.

Tell us honestly what state the property is in. Nobody is judging anybody — we have seen every version of it, and an accurate description just means we bring the right people and the right amount of time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a deep clean and a regular clean?
A regular clean maintains a home - surfaces, floors, bathrooms, kitchen. A deep clean reaches everything a regular visit does not: inside the oven and fridge, behind appliances, skirting boards, door frames, radiators, light fittings, grout and limescale. A deep clean takes several times longer.
How long does a deep clean take?
Around four to five hours for a one-bedroom flat, five to six for two bedrooms, six to eight for a three-bedroom house, and a full day with two cleaners for four bedrooms or more. Condition affects this more than size.
How often should you deep clean a house?
Once or twice a year for most households, plus whenever you move in or out. The most valuable time to book one is immediately before starting a regular cleaning arrangement, so every regular visit afterwards is maintaining a good baseline rather than trying to catch up.
Do I need to do anything before a deep clean?
Clear surfaces, and empty any kitchen cupboards you want cleaned inside. An hour spent moving your belongings is an hour not spent cleaning, and you are paying for the time either way.
