After-school and breakfast clubs in London

The gap between the school bell and the end of your working day, covered properly. Collection from school, a hot meal, help with homework, and enough free play to actually unwind.

Short answer

An after-school club provides supervised care for school-age children between the end of the school day and around 18:30. Earnest Care clubs collect children directly from partner schools, provide a hot tea, offer homework support and run a mix of sport, creative and free-play activities. Breakfast club runs from 07:30.

What happens at after-school club?

Children arriving from a full school day need two things in this order: food, then freedom. We do not start with structured activity - that is a reliable way to produce a room full of frustrated seven year olds.

A typical after-school session
TimeWhat happens
15:15 - 15:45Collection from school on foot, registered in, coats and bags away, wind down.
15:45 - 16:15Hot tea together at the table. A proper meal, not a biscuit and a carton.
16:15 - 17:00Free play - outdoors whenever possible. No compulsory activity.
17:00 - 17:45Optional homework club in a quiet room with an adult on hand, or a planned activity: sport, art, construction, board games, cooking.
17:45 - 18:30Calm-down activities, reading corner, and staggered collection with a short verbal handover.

Breakfast club

From 07:30, with a cooked or cereal breakfast and a calm start to the day - then a walked handover into school. For a lot of London parents this is the difference between making a 09:00 start and not.

Which schools do you collect from?

Booking and fees

Most families book regular days for the term, which secures the place and keeps the cost down. We also hold a small number of ad-hoc sessions each day for the weeks when work goes sideways - bookable up to 9am on the day.

Sessions from £00 per hour, including the hot tea. Funded hours cannot be used for school-age wraparound care, but Tax-Free Childcare can, and so can the Universal Credit childcare element.

Frequently asked questions

What time does after-school club finish?
Our after-school clubs run until 18:30, with staggered collection from 17:30 onwards. Breakfast club opens at 07:30. If you need cover beyond 18:30 occasionally, speak to us - we can sometimes arrange it with notice.
Do you collect children from school?
Yes. Our staff collect on foot from partner schools and register each child in on arrival at the club. Children are only released at the end of the session to named adults on your collection list, with a password system for anyone new.
Can I book after-school club for just one or two days a week?
Yes. You can book any pattern of regular days, and we hold a small number of ad-hoc places each day for last-minute needs, bookable until 9am that morning.
Can I use funded hours for after-school club?
No - government funded early years hours apply to children up to school age only. However, you can use Tax-Free Childcare, and the childcare element of Universal Credit, towards wraparound care for school-age children.
Do children get fed at after-school club?
Yes. Every child gets a hot tea sitting down at a table, plus a snack. It is included in the session fee. We cater for allergies, medical diets and religious requirements.
